“Nutrition Matters

A 1997 report from the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research estimated that diet accounted for one-third of cancer deaths. Dr. Eleni Linos, who researches the impact of diet on cancer at Harvard Medical School, says, “The field of nutrition and cancer is complicated.” Linos says that dietary relationships can vary with different types of cancer. Nevertheless, because good diet is so important to overall health and especially cardiovascular health, it would be silly to throw up our hands and eat fried chicken and Twinkies all day. Here are some diet recommendations.”  Mother Earth News

Go Green, Red, Orange, Purple, Blue!!

A plant based diet preferably from your own garden, organic CSA or local farmer’s market is a sure way to maintain natural health.  Naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, and fiber along with the natural estrogen similar compounds will help maintain a healthy balance and move out day to day toxins.  Plant based foods are naturally detoxifying.  Many fruits beyond their natural fiber attributes are anti-inflammatory.

Broccoli – is a power house of green punch.  It’s known to remove toxins and clean the colon.  Don’t stop though at just the crunch of broccoli – cauliflower, cabbage, mung beans, alfalfa sprouts brussels sprouts, arugula, watercress all are int eh same family.  Add a touch of turmericor ginger for an extra boost.

Skip the Processed and Trucked in Foods – From adding weight to increasing blood sugars processed and dieing food kept “alive” by artificial means.  These processed and chemically enhanced foods also often lead to inflammation which is a cancer trigger.

Choose your fats wisely!!

Eat wild caught salmon and up those omega 3 oils, cook with coconut or olive oil and pass on red meats and non organic meats.  The more local you can buy the healthier it is for you.

Don’t forget your grains!!  The fiber in grains is not the same as the fiber in fruits and vegetables.  To get the full benefit of these fabulous fibers one must eat the whole food cooked or raw.  Long fiber chains clear toxins.

Though there is more of course that can be done the best fight against cancer is health.

Walk, bike, release stress, and relax.  Eat six small meals a day, load up on fiber (no one became fat from eating fruits and vegetables), don’t forget your grains (oatmeal is indeed a wonder food) and drink water!!!!

I am a mango lover!  Here is a great smoothie for those who love mango as I do.

Mango Madness Smoothie from Smoothie Web.

This is a delicious mango smoothie. Very tangy and sweet just like a ripe mango.  You will also find an odd ingredient here, at least for a smoothie: cardamom. why add cardamom? It is a good stimulant and beneficial for those suffering from flatulence and gas (stomach cramps). Cardamom also helps in cleansing the body as it has detoxifying properties. Cardamom enhances appetite and provides relief from acidity in the stomach. And, believe it or not, cardamom is used in treating halitosis.

About Smoothie Essentials - ShelleRae

Welcome! I am ShelleRae and I am very excited you are here. I joined the Smoothie Essentials team about 5 years ago now. Always health conscious and into prevention versus medication it seemed natural when the opportunity came up to take on the creation of this blog and the MatchaGT blog as well. As mother to three and surrogate to many more I've practiced much of what I write on sometimes with great success and other times with a bit less. My friends and family are my test kitchen and my facts are most often from WebMD - they seem to have a fairly accurate and conservative approach. The Smoothie Essentials product is a line of boosts that add functionality to one's daily foods without adding flavor or colors. (except for MatchaGT and green blend) making it easy to "hide" them from the finicky eaters we all know and love. From stirring them into yogurts, smoothies, frappes and even juice drinks it all come out with the original flavor being center star.. My inspiration comes from others who also are striving to live a better life through lifestyle changes.
