Green vegetables are legendary for their importance in maintaining good health thanks to substantial levels of chlorophyll, naturally occurring vitamins, and minerals. With the Smoothie Essentials Green Blend, you can serve up a quick and easy dose of the most powerful greens.
Chlorophyll and lutein are natural antioxidants that are important in maintaining healthy cell integrity.
Wheatgrass refers to the young grass of the common wheat plant. As many green vegetables do, it provides a source for trace amounts of chlorophyll, minerals, and vitamins. Some consumers grow and juice wheatgrass in their homes but it’s more common for consumers to get their wheatgrass benefits at health food stores and juice stores. The benefit of Smoothie Essentials Green Blend is that it comes in powdered form and can be added to the drink of choice.
Spirulina is believed to have been a food source for the Aztecs and other Mesoamericans until the16th-century. Spirulina occurs naturally in certain tropical and subtropical lakes. It adds to the levels of protein, minerals, essential fatty acids and vitamins.
Before WWII drug stores throughout the country sold tablets of dried barley grass as a primitive form of vitamin supplement. Barley grass acts as a free radical scavenger that assists in the reduction of inflammation and pain.
Chlorella is a component of phytoplankton, which is a very small free-floating aquatic plant found in plankton. Although not commonly recognized in the United States, chlorella is a supplement used extensively in the Orient. Among its many benefits are that it helps stimulate the immune system function and helps detoxify the body.
Alfalfa is an Arabic word which means “Father of all foods.” Historical records reference alfalfa as a dietary supplement across many cultures and with many benefits. Alfalfa is a great source for many vitamins and minerals.
Flax is a tall, green plant that has seeds that are small and brown, similar in appearance to apple seeds. The National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine claims that it is “funding studies on flaxseed. Recent studies have looked at the effects of flaxseed on high cholesterol levels, as well as its possible role in preventing conditions such as heart disease and osteoporosis.”
For centuries, the rice bran that encapsulates the white rice within has been used in India to treat various ills among the people. Over two-thirds of the kernel’s nutrients are found in the bran.
Pumpkin Seeds are a natural source for many vitamins and minerals. They are a common treat in many cultures, and the Chinese use pumpkin seeds as a treatment for depression.
With the Smoothie Essentials Green Blend, you can serve up a quick and easy dose of many sources that will boost a healthy diet.

The word Antioxidant is a term sought out by most health-conscious consumers and as such every smoothie shop hoping to capture its share of the market will boast about the ‘antioxidants’ of their beverages.
The human body is subject to decay. Cells are continually being replaced not only as a matter of daily body function but especially when tissues become damaged.
The common cut and abrasion are the superficial evidence of damage. Beneath the surface are the cell-damaging, free-radical producing effects of cigarette smoke, automobile exhaust, and air born contaminants that we all confront when living an active lifestyle.
When the cells are exposed to oxygen the way a sliced apple would be, the result is oxidation. This is normal.
But what tends to happen is that too much oxidation occurs as the body seeks to heal itself. That produces the phenomenon of ‘free radicals’ that actually damage other cells that weren’t harmed by the original injury.
Damaged cells leave the body susceptible to disease. Hence the public demand for ‘antioxidants.’
Antioxidants are naturally found in common sources such as spinach, carrots and vitamin C; and exotic plants such as green tea and milk thistle.
But many beverage bottlers, aware that the consumers like drinks that are blends of various flavors, tout the antioxidant benefits of their drinks.
That’s where Smoothie Essentials comes in because as a flavorless powder, our Antioxidant Blend can be added to whatever beverage of choice the smoothie shop has on the menu. It boosts the power of the antioxidant level without affecting the taste. Consumers, anxious for the benefits as well as for the flavor of the blended drink, seek out smoothie shops that have Antioxidant boosts on the menu.

Proteins are part of every cell, tissue and organ in the body.
The body needs a continual supply of protein in the diet.
Proteins are plentiful in meats, eggs, and milk products.
Luckily, for the vegetarians in the crowd, we can also get protein from certain nuts, fruits and vegetables.
There are 20 different amino acids that join together to make varioius proteins.
Although it’s true that some of these proteins are manufactured by our own bodies, not all of the necessary proteins are.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, it’s essential that our diet provide these.
Smoothie Essentials provides both sources of protein!
Whey Protein Blend which is derived from milk-based products.
Soy Protein Blend for the vegetarian.

I didn’t have the time to go to Pier 39 this week but that’s ok. Having a simple moment for a simple indulgence closer to home was completely fine with me.
Ghirardelli chocolate. You don’t have to be in San Francisco to enjoy it. It’s available for Foodservice!
The instructions say to pour ice and water into a blender, add the Ghirardelli Frappé Classico mix and espresso and blend until frothy. Taking a sip made my eyeballs spin and my tastebuds do a Lindy Hop. Some smoothie shops really are that busy that we need to keep a quick, quick, really quick beverage blend on hand and if such is the case with you ~ keep some Ghirardelli Frappé Classico on the shelf.
A 12 oz. serving takes a cup of ice, a half-cup of milk, one quarter-cup of Frappé Classico powder and your choice of 1 to 2 shots of espresso or double-strength coffee. And you don’t even need coffee if your customers don’t want any.
Safe to say, you might even want to twist the recipe your own way should the time ever come. Ghirardelli’s website suggests that you can add your favorite syrup to it as well: raspberry, peach, orange. Try something. Experiment and let me know what you think!

Bloomberg reports on October 2nd that, “For the first time, the average amount of time it takes fired employees to find a new job exceeds the length of their standard unemployment benefits.” The report goes on to say the Labor Department results show: “The jobless rate rose to 9.8 percent in September, while payrolls fell by 263,000.”
On the other hand, the smoothie industry is still experiencing growth. At about the same time the Labor Department reflected the sad employment news, Erika Engle of the Star Bulletin reported that the Tropical Smoothie chain plans on opening “10 stores in Hawaii over the next four to five years, adding to the spread of the more than 275-unit chain across the U.S.”
The public demand for smoothies seems to defy the gravity of the economy. Not everyone has money for a new car or home, but some inexpensive entertainment with friends remains prominent.
Health and nutrition are keywords in the smoothie culture. But a recent article by Mark Newman of Temple News warns that, “Some smoothies pack more than just vitamins.” He reminds the readers that fruit smoothies are a great way to satisfy hunger pains and boost energy, but to be aware that many smoothie recipes include other things besides fruit. He states, “It’s OK to enjoy one of those monster-ccino drinks with whipped cream and syrup on top once in a while, but these calorie vampires shouldn’t be a regular routine.” His advice is to make sure that your smoothie actually contains adequate amounts of fruit, and the fresher the better.
When choosing your smoothie ingredients,
don’t forget the Smoothie Essentials Blends.
Smoothie Essentials Blends are a wide range of functional supplements, delicately mixed by our herbalists for maximum health benefits.
Smoothie Essentials Blends contain no preservatives. We protect and preserve our Blends simply by packaging and sealing them in an airtight HDPE canister.
Add as much as you want to your smoothie. It would be very, very hard to overdose on our Blends. While there are a lot of herbs in our Blends, the safe limits of these herbs are high.

An article in the September 26 edition of the Chicago Sun Times reports that, on the average, women earn about 80 cents to every dollar earned by men. Author Claudia Buck further details that it’s the women themselves being the problem because they tend to undervalue themselves ~ with many women undercutting their own earnings by not asking for a raise, not negotiating higher starting salary, and not increasing fees.
Compare that to what we see in the grocery stores and convenience stores. According to Markus A. Eckert, Ph.D. in his article of Sept 14 titled, Putting the Function in Beverages, “The call for value-added beverages containing vitamins, minerals, herbals, calcium, energy, protein, fiber and more continues to evolve as consumer needs change.” He goes on to state, “The functional beverage market continues to see a boost in volume sales, with a 74-percent increase during the past five years. The result has created challenges in terms of taste, mouthfeel and drinkability.”
Though still struggling to get their fair wages, the values of health and convenience still rank high. Whether for hydration, sports recovery or energy, shoppers are developing a preference towards beverages that are packed with vitamins, antioxidants, herbals and protein. The gist of Dr. Eckert’s article goes on to detail that the challenge remains on the producer as to how to combine as many ingredients and boosts as possible into the can without simultaneously adding bitter taste.
Perhaps the problem is the can itself. When bottling a beverage, it must meet the demand of many different consumers with many different tastes. Add to that, the problem of shelf life with a ready-to-drink bottle or can, and it’s easy to see why the beverage shelf at the local store keeps growing in size.
The benefit of a Smoothie Essentials Blend is that it comes in powder form and can be added to whichever drink an individual consumer prefers. Whether protein, herbals, vitamins or energy, a flavor change is not detected after adding the Smoothie Essential Blend of choice. A simple scoop of powder is all it takes ~ a smoothie bar can upsell their menu with the product line or the consumer can add a packet to their own beverage of choice ~ be it a juice, a smoothie, a shake, milk or even a bottle of purified water.

I found an excellent article written by Andrew Potter about high school students starting a smoothie shop.
At-Risk students at an alternative high school are learning how to research a business, write and execute a business plan, serve customers and do some accounting by operating a smoothie shop.
Calling it the Bottoms Up Smoothie Spot, or BUSS, they offer smoothies made from fruit, fruit juice and frozen yogurt. They sell for only $2, include five different flavors, ~ strawberry and banana being the most popular ~ and are apparently quite the popular beverage at the Marshalltown Learning Academy.
And best of all, it’s open to the public!
Try it out and post a comment here about your experience!
Meanwhile, conclusions on the connections between Depression and Bone Mineral Density were reported in Biological Psychiatry, in the journal of Sept 01, 2009.
Their findings portray depression as a significant risk factor for low BMD. Do you know someone who is suffering from depression? Economic times are taking a toll on many of us these days. Slip some Smoothie Essentials Calcium Blend to someone you care about.
